The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) is said to have unconditionally released the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, on Wednesday evening, July 8, 2026.
His release followed a contentious airport detention that sparked legal debate and strong objections from his lawyers.
Security operatives arrested Mr Abdul-Wahab at Kotoka International Airport on Saturday, July 4, 2026, as he attempted to leave Ghana.
According to the Deputy Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, his arrest was triggered by Abdul-Wahab’s alleged attempt to access and empty a frozen Republic Bank account fraudulently.
However, his defense counsel, former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame, strongly condemned the arrest as unlawful.
The defense highlighted that an Accra High Court had officially granted Abdul-Wahab permission to travel to the United Kingdom for a medical appointment, making his airport interception a breach of a standing court order. Unconditional Release:
Following heavy legal pushback and a habeas corpus application filed by his lawyers to force the state to produce him, EOCO freed the former CEO without any conditions.
Abdul-Wahab and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, have been under a lengthy investigation by EOCO concerning alleged financial misconduct, money laundering, and tax evasion during his leadership at NAFCO.
Though previous charges were once withdrawn due to fresh evidence, they are currently facing over 20 counts, including the theft and laundering of more than GH¢78 million in public funds, which the couple denies.
