President John Dramani Mahama has directed Zoomlion Ghana Limited to immediately open six waste transfer stations in the Greater Accra Region to speed up refuse evacuation after recent floods.
Speaking at Alajo on Saturday, July 11, during the National Clean-up Exercise, the President said the stations at Achimota, Teshie, Kpone, Ashaiman, Pantang and Adipa were built 9 years ago but never used.

Under the new arrangement, Zoomlion will use heavy trucks to move waste from the transfer stations to treatment plants including ACARP and IRECOP, instead of collectors traveling long distances.
The President also announced a monthly national clean-up day and said the military will continue clearing waste from drains.
Jospong Group Chairman Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong said Zoomlion has deployed 150 trucks, 30 compactors and over 1,000 personnel for the exercise across all 29 MMDAs in Greater Accra.

Officials say the move will improve efficiency and help build a more resilient waste management system for Accra.
